Musical Folk – Chardonnay 2023

“Musical Folk was born from the love of music, friends and drinks, where the sharing of music and good wine has led myself to make great friends and form important relationships.”

James Becker’s entry to the wine world was a casual one, a classic tale of two tonne of fruit inspiring an passion set to last a lifetime.
He began working as a vineyard & cellar hand to support his music career, and after a few years the Yarra Valley had developed a strong connection to his vinous side gig. With the help of local winemakers he sourced a small parcel of fruit in 2021 and Musical Folk was born, driven by a deep love for Chardonnay. James says of all the paths he’s walked, the vineyard and winery are where he feels most at home.

Winemakers Notes:

Flint, white peach, lemon butter and fresh picked parsley. Fleshy peaches and nectarines on the palate, some green apple skin phenolics, with a tonic water lift and grapefruit acidity. Serve cool on the first balmy evening of Summer, when the weather feels like it doesn’t exist.. you know the one, 26 degrees and no wind. Best with Cut Worms ‘The Golden Sky’.

Grown by Con in Yarra Glen. Hand harvested at 12.4 Baume on the 17th of March.

Whole bunch pressed to old French oak hogsheads with full solids. Wild yeast fermentation. Some secondary, malolactic fermentation occurred naturally, but wasn’t monitored. 7 month maturation in old French oak hogsheads on full ferment lees.

Bottled unfined, with a light filter and minimal sulphur.
