Athletes of Wine – Hillside Sangiovese

Style:
With my love of the art of blending in mind, this is definitely more inspired by Super Tuscans than the classic DOCGs. I love the more pretty, red-toned expressions of Sangiovese, but also like a bit of muscle in the background, here provided by a small portion of Malbec. This is a bit of a chameleon and an all-rounder. If you want something fuller it has enough going on to cover it, but if you’re looking for Pinot+ then you can look to the aromatics and pure red fruit to satisfy that too.

Vineyard and Winery:
The Sangiovese is from the Corsinis, the Malbec is from Mark Folletta, an organic grower in Benalla. One fermenter of Sangiovese has loads of whole berries for perfume and lift, the other is plunged vigorously for depth and tannin.
