Kennedy - 'Henrietta' Shiraz - 2018
The growing season started in early September 2016 with an even bud-burst across the vineyard. Spring weather was pleasant with warm days, cool nights and ample rainfall.
The first flowers appeared in early November under good conditions ensuring a solid fruit-set. Over all, the growing season was relatively cool, interspersed with regular intervals of rain. These conditions lent themselves to a protracted growing season, leaving fruit on the vine for a longer period, and allowing for extended flavour development as sugars reached optimum levels. This resulted in high quality Shiraz fruit with good flavours and high acids, perfect for the elegant style of Shiraz we are known for.
The grapes were picked in late March when fruit was ripe and flavours were fully developed. In the winery the fruit was destemmed and wild fermented in open-top vessels with gentle plunging. The wine was matured in old French oak barrels before being bottled in late 2017. A stelvin closure is used to seal the wine
Henrietta was aged in old French barriques, resulting in a wine that shows beautiful purity of fruit. The nose is fresh and vibrant, with lifted notes of cherry and raspberry, supported by hints of violet, pepper and a touch of spice. A firm acid line provides freshness on the palate and allows red fruit, spice and Henrietta’s typical richness to be carried by the wines elegant frame. This is a delicious Shiraz ready to drink now.
