Geologie Riesling - Clare Valley
From a dry grown vineyard just out of the Clare township, a pretty special area. Clay over various rock, granite and slate. I still don’t understand how the Clare makes such great Riesling, it’s really hot and dry and the water sources for irrigation are the lowest allocations I’ve ever seen in Australia but it just does it every year. This site is shoot thinned and bunch thinned to reduce disease and allow ripening early. Picked at 10 baume. Only free run juice was fermented, whole bunch pressed. Aim is for clarity, freshness. Juicy citrus and white flowers.
