Dinner with Los Nadies "The Nobodies" at Johnny Fishbone
We first met Manuel Filgueira of "Bodegas Los Nadies" on a visa run to Uruguay when we were living in Argentina. We had a whole day of vineyard visits planned but ended up scrapping them all so we could maximise our time learning everything we could from Manuel. By the end of the day we had decided to return the next year to do vintage and that is how our love affair with Uruguay was born.
Manuel has had a huge impact on our lives are we are pretty excited that we can now return the favour and host Manuel in Australia.
To celebrate, we are putting on a special dinner at Johnny Fishbones on Thursday 14th March.
A special one off menu matched with Manuels wines including a special wine we helped make.
$55 / Head
Limited spaces available.
Manuel is not just an amazing winemaker, he is a philosopher, historian and intellectual. This is sure to be a very special night.
More about Los Nadies
Manuel is an accomplished winemaker, trained in France and Argentina, considered one of the best in Uruguay. In a recent review by Guruguay magazine his wines were rated 1st, 3rd and 8th best wines of all of Uruguay. However he is very down to earth, his winery name Los Nadies literally means the nobodies. Why? He works mainly with a varietal no one has heard of (Tannat) in a country where most people don't even know where it is (Uruguay).
Elevated at an average of 30m above sea level on calcareous, clay based soils in Canelones, Uruguay. The true work here resides in the vineyard, whereby organic practices and rigorous quality control ensure only the best fruit is harvested, whilst lesser vintages are forfeited to the family’s live stock and soils.
Only the best fruit is handpicked and gravity fed to the winery where it is treated with minimal intervention by the kind hand of Manuel and his band of merry helpers. Spontaneous ferments and zero additives besides the occasional dose of sulphur at bottling, the wines are laid to rest until deemed fit for release.
What does this mean. Only small amounts are made in only the best years. These are not your everyday wines. These are complex, sophisticated wines designed for a long life.
