CLO, 2016 Rose - Pinot Gris and Pinot Meunier
Tumbarumba, New South Wales
I'm unsure whether or not i'd really class this as a rose. I mean the colour is definitely pinky but it's not your typical rose. This is a rose for people who like their wines complex. It's made from a blend of Pinot Gris (a redish grape normally made as a white wine) and Pinot Meunier (another redish grape usually made as a sparkling wine). Lot's of interesting aromatics going on here. I found myself sniffing alot. Apart from the usual suspects i was getting hints of bbq pork which i think this wine would be excellent with. Overall i found this wine unusual but very compelling. Highly recommed.
Elevated at 730m on basalt & red granite soils from the Revee vineyard in Tumbarumba, NSW.
Pinot Meunier and Pinot Gris are handpicked from 37 year old vines as wholebunches and macerated for 8 days with gentle hand plunging, twice daily. The two parcels are then foot stomped and pressed to complete wild primary fermentation in open top stainless steel for 14 days with full natural malolactic fermentation occurring shortly after without the addition of bacteria, enzymes or adjustments.
The resulting wine is left on lees for 1 year in stainless with no bâtonnage occurring until it is racked and blended to bottle.
Unfined, unfiltered and bottled under crown seal with a total of 40ppm SO2.
